Images of a shocking and distasteful Walmart product display, which showcased firearms in the store’s back-to-school section, have prompted the company to offer an apology to customers.
According to The New York Times, images of the display began circulating on social media before Walmart addressed the situation.
“What’s seen in this photograph would never be acceptable in our stores,” Walmart said in a statement. “We regret this situation and are looking into how it could have happened.”
On Wednesday, Walmart’s social media team determined that the sign had appeared at a store in Evansville, Indiana, and that it has since been removed.
On Thursday evening, a Walmart spokesperson told The Times that it was possible the image had been “digitally enhanced” or is some kind of prank.
“It was never confirmed the sign was [at the store in Indiana], and it wasn’t confirmed that this was the store in question,” Mr. Crowson said. The company’s social media

At least 10 people were found dead in a tractor-trailer parked outside a San Antonio, Texas Walmart on Sunday. Dozens of undocumented immigrants were in the truck, many of them badly injured. They were discovered after a man in the truck asked a Walmart employee for water. The worker called police after bringing the man water, according to CNN.
Police found eight bodies in the 18-wheeler. Thirty-one people were suffering from various injuries. Many suffered heat strokes and face potential brain damage. A ninth victim later died at a hospital. The air conditioner in the trailer was not working, Yahoo! reported, and on Saturday, it was a scorching 100 degrees in Texas. Two of the people hospitalized are just 15 years old, a fire spokesman said.
At least 100 undocumented immigrants may have been in the vehicle at some point, US Immigration and Customs Enforcement acting Director Thomas Homan stated.

Police in Arizona have arrested a man they say was seen walking through a Walmart naked while carrying methamphetamine. On the Fourth of July police were called to a Walmart in Tempe, Arizona after a man was spotted wearing nothing but shoes, according to the Arizona Republic. Robert Kanoff, 49, was allegedly on drugs during his arrest. He admitted he was carrying methamphetamine. Police said that two of his acquaintances dropped him off at Walmart because “it would be funny to see him naked.”
Kanoff was arrested for indecent exposure, public sexual indecency, disorderly conduct and possession of dangerous drugs.
ABC15 reported that Kanoff has been charged with possession of meth before, but the case was dismissed because he went through a drug program.

A Florida woman was arrested on theft and aggravated battery after police said she stole about $1,000 worth of merchandise from a Winter Haven Walmart and allegedly tried to run down a police officer, all while babysitting two children.
According to WFLA, Walmart customers watched 29-year-old Elaina West and the two kids pick out televisions and electronics. They then allegedly walked out of the store without paying.
“She had the children assist her filling up the buggies with large electronic items to the tune of almost $1000 worth, then proceeded out of the Garden Center without any attempt to pay,” Winter Haven Police spokesperson Jamie Brown told WFLA.
An officer had ordered West to stop while in the Walmart parking lot. The officer claimed West screamed “Move!” and hit the gas. One of the kids was inside the car, the other was standing in the parking lot when she tried to
