Lawyers for Chris Soules — who was “The Bachelor” on season 19 of the ABC show — are asking the court to dismiss a charge against Soules that claims he failed to remain at the scene of a car accident, People reported.
Iowa authorities claim that Soules, 35, left the scene of a fatal car accident that resulted in the death of 66-year-old Kenneth Mosher, a veteran. But Soules’ attorneys say that the charges are unfounded.
“Because Mr. Soules indisputably stopped his vehicle, returned to the injured driver, contacted law enforcement, provided aid to the injured driver, arranged for medical treatment for the injured driver, remained until emergency personnel responded to the injured party, and provided identification data, the State’s charge must be dismissed,” court documents by Soules’ attorneys said.
Soules also attempted to resuscitate Mosher with CPR, his lawyers claimed.
“Mr. Soules checked on Mr. Mosher to determine if he

Residents of the Seminole Heights neighborhood in Tampa are being asked to stay inside after a 60-year-old man was shot to death while crossing the street on Tuesday morning, The Miami Herald reported.
Police are investigating the murder as the work of a possible serial killer responsible for the death of three other people in the same neighborhood.
In addition to new victim Ronald Felton, 60, police believe the same shooter killed Benjamin Mitchell, 22; Monica Hoffa, 32; and Anthony Naiboa, 20. All three were killed within days of each other in October.
The suspect in Felton’s shooting was thin and wearing a black baseball hat at the time he came up behind Felton and shot him in the back, police said.
Police believe the shooter is likely to live in the neighborhood, and police cautioned that residents should check their homes and make sure that, if they own a gun, it is

A Tennessee man was arrested yesterday after opening fire in his former church, killing one person and injuring at least six others, police said.
Emanuel Kidega Samson, 25, allegedly arrived at Nashville’s Burnette Chapel Church of Christ with a handgun shortly before 11 am, just as morning church services were ending, he told police. He was charged with first-degree murder, and other charges are expected.
Catherine Dickerson, one of the injured church parishioners, told USA Today what she saw.
“I looked to my right and didn’t see anything,” Dickerson said. “Then another gunshot went off and someone said, ‘He’s got a gun!’”
“He was in black and had a black mask with white little markings on it,” Dickerson added. “He had the gun straight ahead of him, holding it with both hands. I saw one lady and she was going down.”

A registered sex offender has been charged with sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in a Missouri hospital.
Fifty-seven-year-old Dave Saffeels was charged Saturday with nine felonies, according to CBS News. He also allegedly molested a 2-year-old girl. The two girls were allegedly victimized within a one-month time span.
The Springfield News-Leader reports that Saffeels is currently jailed on $500,000 bond. The probable cause statement says the older girl was repeatedly assaulted in August in a patient room of Cox South Hospital. The 11-year-old was visiting the hospital to see a woman who just had twins, and somehow she and Saffeels ended up in a room alone together.
Cox spokeswoman Kaitlyn McConnell said the hospital was not aware of the allegations at the time.
“We are fully cooperating with the Springfield Police Department and are taking this matter seriously,” McConnell said.
A few weeks later, Saffeels allegedly raped the girl at her home while she

An Oklahoma City federal judge has awarded $1 million in damages to a teenage boy who was raped by his middle school teacher, according to The Oklahoman newspaper.
Jennifer Caswell, 31, was sentenced to 15 years in prison, five of which were suspended, after pleading guilty to six counts of second-degree rape, child enticement and forcible sodomy in June 2015.
In his judgment, U.S. District Judge Robin J. Cauthron wrote that following the incident, which garnered national headlines after Caswell appeared on the “Dr. Phil” show, the victim experienced “depression, isolation, and self-blame for the events that transpired.”
The boy and his father sued Caswell and the Hollis Oklahoma school district in 2015 due to the boy’s emotional duress and in order to bring attention to the plight of sexual abuse by teachers, according to their attorney Bob Wyatt.
Following the judgment, Wyatt said, “”We are pleased that the judge

A Northwestern University associate professor and an Oxford University employee have each turned themselves into police after the pair became suspects in the death of a 26-year-old man, People magazine reports.
Police found the body of Trenton Cornell-Duranleau at the home of Wyndham Lathem, 42, an associate professor of microbiology-immunology at Northwestern. The victim was apparently stabbed to death.
Police searched for Lathem and Andrew Warren, 56, for more than a week before they agreed to turn themselves in.
While on the run, Lathem allegedly sent a video to Cornell-Duranleau’s family, apologizing for “the worst mistake of my life,” investigators claimed.
One of the suspects also made a $1,000 donation to a local library in Cornell-Duranleau’s name, the Associated Press reports.
Lathem, who has been placed on administrative leave and banned from Northwestern’s campuses, plans to plead not guilty to the charge of murder, his attorney told People.
