Juanita Martinez Gomez was found guilty of first-degree murder last month after a violent exorcism resulted in the death of her daughter in August of 2016. Now, Gomez has been sentenced to life in prison with no possibility of parole.
According to NewsOK, Gomez plans on appealing the decision made by District Judge Ray Elliott. She did not offer a statement on the proceedings and spoke quietly in court.
Investigators say that Gomez had admitted to physically abusing her daughter because she was believed to have been possessed by the devil. In a ritualistic attempt to rid her of evil spirits, Gomez shoved a crucifix and a religious medallion down her throat. She ultimately died from blunt force trauma to the head and face, according to a state medical examiner.

An Oklahoma woman was found guilty of killing her adult daughter by shoving a crucifix down her throat, CBS News reported.
A jury found Juanita Gomez, 51, guilty of first-degree murder in the 2016 death of her daughter, 33-year-old Geneva Gomez, who Juanita reportedly believed was possessed by the devil.
Geneva Gomez’s body was discovered by her boyfriend, Francisco Merlos, who had come to visit Gomez in order to win her back two days after they broke up, the Chicago Tribune reported. Juanita Gomez let him inside her house.

Desiree Gibbon was found dead on the side of a road in rural Jamaica Sunday morning. According to the New York Daily News, her body was spotted in some bushes caked in blood. She was beaten and her throat had been slit in a brutal fashion. Here’s what we know about her, so far:
