The mythos of the Slender Man, a fictional monster created on spooky internet forums, has enraptured indie horror directors since the creature’s bizarre inception. Now, a new horror film about the extra-dimensional cryptid is looking to scare a new generation.
Not everyone is pleased with the new movie, though. The father of a teenager who attempted to murder a classmate in the name of the faceless phantom is speaking out against the project, characterizing it as distasteful.
The trailer for the new film, simply titled “Slender Man,” was released just yesterday:
“Slender Man,” directed by Sylvain White and written by David Birke, tells the tale of a group of teens who are attempting to debunk the digital urban legend, when one of them suddenly goes missing. In the teaser, no overt references to the bizarre case of teenagers Anissa Weier and Morgan Geyser are made, although the crime is implicitly in the background

A woman who recently had a miscarriage earlier this year is accused of stabbing a mother to death and then kidnapping her 6-week-old daughter. Carolina Flores, 33, was found dead in her Houston apartment on Tuesday by family members. Her baby, Shamali, was missing.
Police almost immediately theorized that the culprit was a woman who had lost a child and wanted to try to pass Shamali off as her own baby, the Washington Post reported.
A day later, Erika Jisela Miranda-Alvarez, 28, was arrested and charged with capital murder for the death of Flores. Shamali was found alive and unharmed at Alvarez’s home, which she shared with her boyfriend.
Alvarez was an acquaintance of the victim. Police said she was due to give birth in January but suffered a miscarriage instead, according to ABC7. Police believe she has since faked a pregnancy. It is unclear if Alvarez has an attorney who

“I eventually found the strength to pick myself off the ground only to be met by a shower of [gas],” she added in her testimony on behalf of White Ribbon, an advocacy organization for victims of domestic violence. “It ran down my face and through my hair. It burned my eyes and I coughed as the fumes began to choke me.”

A woman who stabbed her victim 21 times is already up for parole.
As KXAN reports, 20-year-old Pearl Moen was sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempted murder. She stabbed her victim, a woman identified as Katie, in Austin’s Hyde Park in November 2015.
The victim is shocked. “I felt as though I deserved at least five years of not having to think about this,” said Katie.
In 2016, a diary entry was uncovered in which Moen appeared happy with her act. “I stabbed an innocent woman to death earlier today – technically yesterday since it’s 1 a.m.,” the diary read, per the arrest affidavit. “It was absolutely fantastic. Murder gives me a high unlike any other.”
The reason for her quick parole is because attempted murder is not considered a “3G offense,” or, a very violent crime that usually involves a weapon. Those that are serving time for non-3G offenses are eligible for

Family members of a suburban Chicago fast food restaurant manager who was stabbed to death last week were seeking answers at the scene, where they said police had not yet told them how or why he was killed. Autopsy results have since been released, but some questions still remain.
John Price, 35, was working the overnight shift at Arby’s in Hickory Hills, where he has worked for five years, when he was killed. The Cook County medical examiner’s office determined on Friday Price died from multiple sharp-force injuries and ruled the death a homicide. An Arby’s employee, Irvin Thomas, 26, is being charged with first-degree murder for the stabbing and will appear in court Tuesday. Police found Thomas at his residence, where he was taken into custody.
Though police have now updated family and the public, details surrounding Price’s death were unclear in the hours after his alleged murder.

The missing limbs of a Brockton, Massachusetts man who was allegedly murdered by his girlfriend were found by his family when they went to collect his belongings on Monday. According to the Boston Herald, 44-year-old Joseph Shaw was stabbed more than 30 times before he was dismembered.
Many family members did not even know of the victim’s mutilation until the girlfriend, Kathryn Podgurski, 33, was arraigned in court for murder on Monday. The revelation prompted several relatives to run from the courthouse, sobbing in the middle of the arraignment, according to the Herald and NECN.
Soon after they found out how Shaw was killed, the family went to his apartment to gather his belongings. His niece Jacinda Shaw noticed a backpack with blood on its zipper.
“It was heavy, and when I opened it, his foot popped up,” she said. “We dumped it out on the bed, and there was another bag that

A Georgia woman accused of stabbing her husband and her four children to death was all smiles in court on Friday. She flashed double thumbs up to news cameras and told a judge that she didn’t want an attorney.
“My attorney is the people that we’re fighting for,” Isabel Martinez said through a Spanish-English translator. “That’s the hope. It’s always the hope, because that’s the last thing that dies. You are the hope of the world, each one of you.”
Martinez, 33, allegedly stabbed her five loved ones to death: Martin Romero, 33, Isabela Martinez, 10; Dacota Romero, 7; Dillan Romero, 4; and Axel Romero, 2. She also is accused of seriously injured another child, Diana Romero, 9, at her home, according to Gwinnett Daily Post.

A Chicago girl was stabbed to death by a man she called her step-father on Sunday. John Singleton, 31, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of 12-year-old Alexis Stubbs, according to the Associated Press. He allegedly confessed to beating and stabbing the girl and is now in jail without bail.
According to DNA Info, an argument erupted over housing and cigarettes. The girl’s mother had left the apartment briefly to get cigarettes when Singleton allegedly attacked Alexis with a hammer before stabbing her 11 times. Singleton repeatedly tried to call Stubbs’ mother. In a call that went to voicemail, the girl can allegedly be heard screaming, “Please daddy, don’t.”
The girl’s mother called 911 and applied pressure to the girl’s wounds when she got into the apartment, prosecutors said, as Singleton ran off and allegedly sent “taunting text messages.”
In one of the messages, according to the
