9 Hospital Staff Members Arrested For Abusing Patients, Forcing One To Wear Dirty Diaper On Head

Employees at Connecticut’s only maximum-security psychiatric hospital have been arrested for multiple instances of abuse against patients. According to ABC News, 31 staff members at the Whiting Forensic Division hospital in Middletown have been suspended and nine were arrested for cruelty and disorderly conduct. Authorities expect more arrests as allegations of abuse and misconduct continue to be called in.

“It’s really incomprehensible that this could happen in this day and age,” said Sen. Heather Somers. “It’s like something out of a Stephen King novel. I think it’s very important that we, as legislators, get to the bottom of this. If you are put in the state’s care, you should be cared for. You shouldn’t be tormented.”

A list of those arrested so far was reported by The Middletown Press. The suspects are all men (pictured above).

According to a state report,  staff members put a diaper on a 62-year-old patient’s head, threw food at him, poured water

Man Sexually Assaults 11-Year-Old In Hospital, Blames Victim For Being ‘Sexually Provocative’ With Popsicle

A registered sex offender has been charged with sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl in a Missouri hospital.

Fifty-seven-year-old Dave Saffeels was charged Saturday with nine felonies, according to CBS News. He also allegedly molested a 2-year-old girl. The two girls were allegedly victimized within a one-month time span.

The Springfield News-Leader reports that Saffeels is currently jailed on $500,000 bond. The probable cause statement says the older girl was repeatedly assaulted in August in a patient room of Cox South Hospital. The 11-year-old was visiting the hospital to see a woman who just had twins, and somehow she and Saffeels ended up in a room alone together.

Cox spokeswoman Kaitlyn McConnell said the hospital was not aware of the allegations at the time.

“We are fully cooperating with the Springfield Police Department and are taking this matter seriously,” McConnell said.

A few weeks later, Saffeels allegedly raped the girl at her home while she

Woman Who Left Baby In Hospital Trash Can Because She ‘Didn’t Know She Was Pregnant’ Gets Probation

An Iowa woman who pled guilty to abandoning her newborn baby in a trash can at a hospital was sentenced to five years of probation in lieu of prison time, The Iowa City Press-Citizen reported.

Ashley Hautzenrader, 24, had entered an Alford plea of guilty to child endangerment and to neglect or abandonment of a dependent person.

At one point during her sentencing, Hautzenrader addressed the court uninterrupted for 30 minutes, saying she was at the hospital to begin with because her other child had been admitted to the intensive care unit for a serious heart condition.

“I’m just asking you to listen and try to understand what I’ve been through,” Hautzenrader said.

She gave birth to a baby in a University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics bathroom on May 8, 2016.

Police said that she believed that the baby she had given birth to was dead and tried to flush the child

Mom Tells Family 1-Year-Old Overdosing On Heroin Just Ate Bug Spray, Refuses To Take Him To Hospital

An Indiana woman is under arrest after she didn’t take her 1-year-old son to the hospital last week as he overdosed on heroin, telling people instead that he had simply eaten “bug spray,” a local NBC affiliate reported.

Daisha Sue Clark, 28, later told police that she found her infant son with plastic in his mouth and powder on his face, court records claim.

A relative said that the boy got sick and stopped breathing, but Clark insisted that the boy had only bitten a bottle of bug spray and didn’t need to go to the hospital, court records said.

When the family member took the boy anyway, doctors were able to revive the child by using a drug on him that is used for opioid overdoses. The boy was later released.

Police found a syringe in Clark’s bedroom filled with brown liquid, along with burnt spoons covered in white residue.

Clark has several

Mom Smothers Newborn To Death While Heavily Medicated, Sues Hospital For Negligence

A new mother is suing the hospital after she accidentally smothered her newborn.

According to Oregon Live, Monica Thompon is suing Portland Adventist Medical Center for $8.6 million after she was left unsupervised and ended up killing her 4-day-old son Jacob.

Thompson was heavily medicated with painkillers and sleep aids while Jacob, who was born via C-section in August 2012, was left in the bed with her so she could breastfeed him. KATU shares that Thompson was a first-time mother. When she awoke, she found the newborn not responding. “About an hour later, still drowsy and groggy, Mrs. Thompson noticed her son was unresponsive in her arms,” the lawsuit states.

Jacob suffered brain damage and his parents ultimately removed him from life support six days later. Doctors told them that his comatose state would be irreversible.

The lawsuit is alleging negligence on the part of the hospital for medicating Thompson, placing the newborn in her bed without

Mom Who Drove Her Kids Into The Ocean To Be Released From Mental Hospital

A mom who drove her SUV with her children inside into the ocean was granted conditional release from a mental hospital Thursday afternoon. CBS affiliate WKMG reported that Ebony Wilkerson, 36, will have to stay in transitional housing and take injectable medications. Doctors and staff from the transitional facility reassured the judge that as long as Wilkerson takes her medication and receives therapy, she is unlikely to harm herself or others.

In March 2014, a then-pregnant Wilkerson drove her SUV into the water off Daytona Beach, according to CBS News. Rescuers saved the three children inside: ages 10, 9, and 3. They were not injured and the incident was captured on camera.  Wilkerson was found not guilty by reason of insanity on three counts of felony child abuse and was ordered committed to a state hospital in December 2014.

Wilkerson cannot have physical contact with her children until a

Mother Caught On Camera Trying To Suffocate Baby At Hospital

A North Carolina single mother was arrested on charges that she tried to smother her one-year-old boy with a pillow while he was being treated at a hospital, WSOC-TV reported.

Maggie Dixon, 32, brought her son to the hospital on Saturday and reportedly told doctors that she thought her son had pneumonia, but nurses noticed while monitoring his vital signs that the boy particularly had trouble breathing when Dixon was alone with him, the Associated Press reports.

When hospital workers watched surveillance video of the room, they allegedly saw Dixon try to suffocate her baby with a pillow.

She tried to smother her baby four times within fifteen minutes, police told WSOC-TV.

Prior to the child’s hospital visit, there was no sign that he had been abused, police said. He is currently at the hospital with other family members, and will be turned over to his father once he is
