Family of NYC Bomber Are ‘Outraged By The Behavior Of Law Enforcement’

Yesterday, Akayed Ullah was apprehended in relation to yesterday’s terroristic attack at the Port Authority bus station. Now, Ullah’s family is claiming they were mistreated by the police investigating the situation.

“We are heartbroken by this attack on our city today and by the allegations being made against our family,” said the family in a statement issued through the Council on American-Islamic Relations of New York (CAIR-NY), according to The Washington Post

The statement went on to detail the ways the Ullah family was interrogated by the police, characterizing the situation as an outrage.

“Today we have seen our children, as young as 4 years old, held out in the cold, detained as their parents were questioned … One teenage relative was pulled out of high school classes and interrogated without a lawyer, without his parents. These are not the actions that we expect from our justice system,” the statement continues.

Beyond the statement, Albert Fox Cahn,

Plumber Found Guilty Of Slaughtering San Francisco Family Of 5

It was one of the most brutal mass slayings in the Bay area. In 2012, a family of five was found bludgeoned to death with a hammer inside their San Francisco home. On Monday, the man responsible for the murders was found guilty. After six days of deliberations, a jury found Binh Thai Luc, 41, guilty on all five counts of murder, the Associated Press reports.

“This was a very gruesome, brutal murder, and we’re pleased we’re getting some accountability for the family and for the community,” District Attorney George Gascón told SF Gate.

Plumber Luc murdered husband and wife Hua Shun Lei, 65 and Wan Yi Wu, 62 and two of their children Ying Xue Lei, 37 and Vincent Lei, 32. The fifth victim, Chia Huei Chu, 30, was Vincent’s wife. Tragically, Vincent’s 12-year-old niece was the one who found all five bodies. The San Francisco Chronicle reports

Family Sues Hotel After 5-Year-Old Boy’s Head Was Crushed By Rotating Restaurant

A 5-year-old boy was trapped inside a rotating Atlanta restaurant and killed back in April. Now, his parents have filed a lawsuit against the 73-story hotel and restaurant where he died.

Charlie Holt’s head was caught in a 5-inch gap between a piece of furniture and wall while the floor of the restaurant, Sun Dial, rotated, the Charlotte Observer reported. Marriott International, Inc. owns the Westin Peachtree Hotel where Sun Dial is located, and they are all named in the suit.

The boy’s parents, Michael and Rebecca Holt, are accusing the companies of negligence for failing to address a “longstanding safety hazard.” It argues that there were no protections to stop children from getting trapped. Furthermore, it alleges that no emergency stop mechanism exists on the wall to quickly stop the rotation in the event of such an incident.

“Due to the pending litigation, we are not commenting on the matter,” Marriott International,

Missing American Family Found Safe In Brazil’s Amazon After Pirate Attack

A California family has been found safe after going missing in Brazil’s Amazon. The Washington Post reported that 39-year-old Adam Harris Harteau and 37-year-old Emily Faith Harteau and their daughters Colette, 7, and Sierra, 3, were traveling through the Amazon River delta area when they were attacked by pirates.

According to Associated Press, they were found by a fisherman after a few days in good condition. They suffered just scratches and insect bites.

When we adults were rock climbing in the magical #ParqueChapadaDiamantina, the girls each claimed their houses and focused on playing. Colette discovered a red rock which she said was so crumbly she made it into a “witch powder.” Adam asked what would happen if she added water, and her face lit up. She poured water, mixed it into a paint, made a twiggy paintbrush, painted her sisters face, then asked us to come over so she could adorn

Woman Fatally Poisons Husband And His Family To Escape Arranged Marriage

A Pakistani bride is making international headlines after being charged with the poisoning of her husband and his family. According to BBC, Asiya Bibi has been arrested on suspicion of killing her new husband and at least 14 of his relatives with poisoned milk.

Bibi was apparently forced into an arranged marriage in September. Local media in central Muzaffargarh share that the bride had tried to flee her marital home — unsuccessfully — and return to her parents.

Arranged marriages are common in the country, and women have varying degrees of choice in whom they marry and their life thereafter. As PBS notes, an arranged marriage distinguishes itself from other kinds of marriages (such as “love marriages” more common in the US) by the significant role that parents or older family members play in selecting a match and being involved in the union.

Allegedly, Bibi tried to kill only her husband with poisoned milk

Family Allegedly Held At Gunpoint Until Police Realize They Aren’t Robbing Their Own Home

Police allegedly held two medical professionals and their children at gunpoint in Mississippi before determining that the family wasn’t in the act of robbing their own house, The Sun Herald reported.

“I totally think they racially profiled me,” said the father, Kelvin Fairley, who is black and a registered nurse. “They never would even tell me why they stopped me. From the moment they pulled us over, there were six to seven police cars. They immediately had their guns drawn.”

A neighbor had called police after seeing the family, believing that the group was robbing a house.

The officers allegedly asked Fairley to exit the car and put his hands up. When Fairley asked why the police had pulled him over, he claimed, the police allegedly gave him no explanation.

Fairley tried to show the police his identification, he said, which would have shown that his address matched the house in front of

Family Outraged After 2-Year-Old’s Kidney Transplant Is Put On Hold Because Dad Violated Parole

A 2-year-old boy will have to wait longer for his kidney transplant after his dad, who was discovered to be a match, violated the terms of his probation.

As AJC reports, the surgery for Anthony Dickerson Jr. was scheduled to take place on October 3 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. That changed when the father, 26-year-old Anthony Dickerson, was arrested for a parole violation last month.

Dickerson was first arrested in 2011 on misdemeanor theft charges and a first-degree forgery charge. He was arrested for violating his probation in September and charged with possession of a firearm.

While incarcerated, Emory Hospital wrote a letter on his behalf to request that he be given blood work and pre-operative testing for his son, who was born without kidneys.

But in light of the parole violation, the hospital told the child’s mother, Carmellia Burgess, that it was changing its mind. The hospital said it
