Elizabeth Smart Won’t Watch Her ‘Terrifying’ Lifetime Movie Again

Elizabeth Smart doesn’t want to see her life story again. The 29-year-old’s abduction and escape was captured in the new Lifetime film, Smart was both a producer and narrator on the movie. She saw it once but says that she doesn’t want to see her case on the small screen again.

“I’m pretty proud of it and I’ve watched it and, no offense to Alana [Boden, who played Smart in the film], she was great, but I never want to watch it again,” she tells E!. The movie, which premiered this weekend, shows Smart’s 2002 kidnapping when she was 14 years old. Elizabeth Smart Opens Up About Painful Memories Of Being Kidnapped: ‘It Is Hard To Go Back’

Elizabeth Smart revealed some of the triggers that bring her back to her kidnapping ordeal on “Access Hollywood.” She appeared on the show on Monday to promote two upcoming television projects that focus on the events: the movie “I Am Elizabeth Smart,” which premieres Nov. 19 at 8/7c on Lifetime, and the second half of a  two-part documentary special called “Elizabeth Smart: Autobiography”, which airs Nov. 14 at 9 p.m. on AE.

In 2002, Smart was kidnapped at knifepoint from her bedroom by Brian David Mitchell and Wanda Barzee. They kept her captive for nine months and was repeatedly raped and assaulted before she was saved, People reports.

“I have been so blessed,” Smart, now 30, said during Monday’s appearance. “I have been so lucky. I have not struggled with PTSD. I mean there are moments where I’ll see something or maybe I’ll smell something and it’ll take me back.”
