Three teenagers have been implicated in the brutal assault of a disabled 17-year-old in Victoria, Australia. The incident is being described by police as “one of the worst assaults in 30 years.”
According to News.com.au, two 15-year-olds and a 12-year-old tricked the disabled victim into going to a local Moe park, where they attacked her. The children posted video of the assault on social media.
The intellectually disabled teen had her face beaten, her broken phone smashed into her face, and her hands seared on a barbeque. She was also kicked and punched repeatedly.
The victim was taken to a hospital where she is expected to recover.
The victim’s mother has described the attack as “incomprehensible … The amount of times they pummelled her head into that picnic table is disgusting,” she said. “Her face is black and blue, she’s unrecognizable.”

On Friday, a Jackson Township, Ohio mother pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter for killing her 5-year-old daughter in early 2017 and then having her husband hide the body inside the restaurant the couple owned.
A videotaped confession, in which 30-year-old Ming Ming Chen reveals why she killed her child, was released this week. Last January, little Ashley Zhao’s body was discovered hidden in the family’s Chinese restaurant, just one day Chen and her husband Liang Zhao reported her missing. The confession took place in a police interrogation room, not long after the young girl’s body was found.

In theory, teachers are supposed to be role models for their students. But every week, it seems like we hear about another teacher using their power to take advantage of a student.
This year, there was no shortage of teachers who crossed professional boundaries and sexually exploited minors. So, we rounded up some of the worst teacher scandals of 2017.

This was one of the most infamous teacher-student scandals this year. On March 13, high school student Elizabeth Thomas was allegedly kidnapped by her former 50-year-old teacher, according to NBC News. What came next was a national manhunt.
After over a month on the run, the pair were found at a remote cabin in northern California. Apparently, before the two allegedly ran off, an attorney for the Thomas family revealed on Crime Stories podcast that the 15-year-old girl’s relationship with the teacher was an open secret. They were

In a video circulating on the internet, North Korean soldiers are seen in pursuit of a defector crossing the border of a demilitarized zone and thus violating a decades-old treaty. The situation, confirmed by United Nations Command, has caused international anxieties about the tenuousness of the agreement.
According to The New York Times, North Korean soldiers fired at and severely injured a defector who was attempting to flee the country to South Korea through the 2.5 mile-wide DMZ. In doing so (and in their retreat), the soldiers violated the 1953 truce that ended the Korean War. The American-led United Nations Command will now hold discussions on how to prevent further violations in the future.
The defector was helicoptered to a South Korean hospital where he was treated for five gunshot wounds. Doctors also found his stomach to be infested with parasitic worms. Although his physical condition is currently in a

A woman, who has now fled her home state of Indiana, is accused of trying to kill her baby niece by putting Excedrin in her bottle of breast milk.
Sarai Rodriguez-Miranda, 19, allegedly poisoned the milk in January because she was upset that she had to share her home with her brother’s new family, according to CBS News.
The teen was charged on Monday with attempted murder, and remained at large Thursday. Police believe she ran away to Michigan after learning she was being looked at as a suspect in the murder attempt.
The baby, who was just 11 weeks old at the time of the incident, was not hurt. However, according to court documents, there was enough Excedrin tablets in the milk to kill an adult. Police believe that Rodriguez-Miranda was angry that her brother, his fiancée and their daughter moved in with her and her mother. She was allegedly annoyed
