Judge Sentenced Mom Of 3-Year-Old Who Froze To Death On Front Porch In 20-Degree Weather

A young mother whose 3-year-old son froze to death outside in bone-chilling weather was sentenced for involunatary manslaughter. As WSOCTV reports, 24-year-old Jamie Basinger of North Carolina pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 245 days in jail.

Since she’s already served that, she may be able to get credit for time served and be free soon.

Authorities claim that the child, Landyn, froze to death on March 15—while the mom slept inside—after a passerby spotted him on the front porch. The temperature at the time was in the 20s. “I love my kid to death, and I would never do nothing to hurt him,” Basinger said.

Authorities share that she admitted to being on meth and marijuana prior to the incident, which apparently impaired her judgment and response. “She didn’t hear him. She didn’t hear him leave the room. Didn’t hear him leave the house. Didn’t

Prison Guards Mock Disabled Inmate Who Was Gassed To Death On Facebook

A handful of correctional officers are accused of mocking an inmate who died in a Carrabelle, Florida prison while begging for medical attention. The officers were responding to story published in the Miami Herald last week about an active lawsuit against corrections for the death of Randall Jordan-Aparo. They called the dead inmate a “b*tch” and other names on a private Facebook page dedicated to Florida corrections officers.

Jordan-Aparo, 27, allegedly spent four entire days begging for medical help. According to court records, medical staff dismissed his desire to take him to a hospital and instead gave him mere Tylenol pills for his ailments. According to the Miami Herald, he suffered from a rare genetic blood disorder, which was noted in his prison medical file.

When Jordan-Aparo disagreed with his treatment, he was allegedly put in an isolation cell where he was sprayed with a “chemical restraint agent.”

Couple Accused Of Letting 6-Year-Old Son Starve To Death As ‘Punishment’

An Illinois couple allegedly starved their 6-year-old son to death as punishment. The boy weighed just 17 pounds when he died of malnutrition last week, according to documents from the Jersey County, Illinois State’s Attorney obtained by People.

Police determined that the victim was “deprived of food by their father and stepmother as a form of punishment,” a police statement said. The parents, father Michael Roberts and stepmother Georgena Roberts, both 42, are also accused of starving the victim’s 7-year-old sibling. In all, six children lived with the Roberts.

Last week, Michael and Georgena were charged with first-degree murder and two counts each of endangering the life and health of a child. The Washington Post reports that the parents allegedly spent nearly two years withholding food from the boy.

Both parents are being held on bail set at $500,000 apiece. It is unclear if either has attorneys who can speak on

Day Care Worker Sentenced To Prison For Death Of Infant With Fractured Skull, Broken Arms

A Utah day care worker has been sentenced to prison after an 8-month-old boy died in her care. As The Salt Lake Tribune reported, 36-year-old Tisha Lynn Morley was convicted in May of first-degree felony child abuse homicide in the 2014 death of 8-month-old Lincoln Penland. On Wednesday, a judge sentenced Morley to the maximum sentence — a five-year-to-life term in the Utah State Prison.

“I’m not a monster,” Morley said during the sentencing. “I’m not a terrible person. I’m a person who made a terrible mistake.” She admitted that she made a “neglectful and careless mistake” that led to the boy’s death, but asked the judge not to give her prison time.

On February 19, 2014, Lincoln suffered fatal injuries at Morley’s in-home day care. His skull was fractured and both arms were broken. His brain and spine also sustained injuries. The infant died days later at a hospital.
