In 2016, Daniel Shaver was shot to death by police. The officer who killed Shaver, Philip Brailsford, was recently found not guilty on charges of manslaughter, despite the existence of an incredibly graphic video of the incident, in which Shaver can be seen begging for his life. Now, Shaver’s wife is speaking about the incident, categorizing the slaying as “an execution.”
“I’ve been fighting for two years and screaming. Finally, now, it took people watching my husband die a very horrible inhumane death for people to care,” Laney Sweet said in a recent interview.
“You had a man begging for his life, and he was shot five times for what?” she continued. “For his elbow coming up too high? For being confused? For being compliant? Why did he deserve to die? He didn’t.”

An ex-officer has been found not guilty for killing an unarmed dad. According to AZ Central, former Mesa police Officer Philip “Mitch” Brailsford of Maricopa County was determined not guilty of second-degree murder charges.
The charges related to a fatal incident on January 18, 2016 in which 26-year-old Daniel Shaver was confronted by six police officers at a La Quinta Inn Suites hallway. They were attending to call about an armed man at the building. Shaver was reportedly was kneeling, crying and begging not to be shot. The incident was captured on two police on-body cameras. The video is seen below per Daily Mail. It appears that Shaver was confused trying to follow the officers’ instructions. Shaver began to cry and said, “Please don’t shoot me.” He crawled towards the officers and then raised his right hand near his waistband. That’s when Brailsford fired.
