An 11-year-old girl from Florida was allegedly kidnapped by a man she met while playing Minecraft. On Sunday, Alice Johnson’s dad noticed she was gone when he tried to wake up her for church.
The child was found on Sunday after police and FBI agents were able to track her down and find her in at a Holiday Inn in Georgia with 24-year-old John Peter Byrns, from Illinois, WESH 2 reports.
“This is someone that she’s been communicating with online under the guise of being a female and basically has just pulled her into a trap, so to speak,” the girl’s dad told the publication. He said he and Johnson’s mother believed she had made an online friend, a girl from Illinois.
Police said during a press conference on Monday, according to an ABC affiliate, that Byrns “lived in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, and he traveled quite a ways to get

Special counsel investigator Robert Mueller has indicted 13 Russian nationals and three Russian organizations who are now officially accused of conducting “information warfare” in attempts to influence to the 2016 United States Presidential election. Deputy Attorney General for the United States Department of Justice Rod Rosenstein has emphasized that the indictment does not indicate the attempts to influence the election ultimately effected the outcome of the election.
According to CNBC, a group called Internet Research Agency (a Russian org created in 2013) is now accused of creating false identities on social media in the hopes of swaying opinions. The actions of the accused began in 2014, ultimately culminating in a coordinated effort “supporting the presidential campaign of then-candidate Donald J. Trump … and disparaging Hillary Clinton.”

On Wednesday, a former student killed 17 people at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. As CNN reports, the massacre is one of the deadliest mass shootings in modern history. Many parents are wondering in the aftermath, how to talk to their children and teens about mass shootings, dealing with complex emotions and safety.
According to Today, the American Psychiatric Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend that parents usually wait until the child is of a certain age of understanding, approximately 8, before broaching the topic. “If it doesn’t directly affect your family, kids under 8 do not need to hear about this,” says Dr. Deborah Gilboa. Prior to this age, children may struggle with processing the impact of a mass shooting.
However, experts recommend that if a child is likely to hear about the shooting from peers and others, they should discuss it.
Some Parkland students spoke out

A man already charged in the murder of a couple found buried in a shallow grave in September has just been indicted for the murder of another body found buried under a vacant home in Fort Worth, Texas.
On Thursday, a grand jury indicted Hector “Cholo” Acosta, 28, and his alleged accomplice Felipe Eduardo Ortiz, 29, on capital murder charges in connection with the body found under the home, the Star-Telegram reports. That body was Triston Ray Algiene, 34, who had been missing since July. His body was discovered in October, cut in half before being shoved under a repair patch in the vacant home’s foundation.
Just one month before Algiene’s body was found, Acosta was indicted on the capital murder charge of Erick “Diablo” Zelaya and Zelaya’s girlfriend, Iris Chirinos, who was only 17 years old.
The severed head of Zelaya was discovered on a walking trail. Near the head,

There’s also “All Killa No Filla,” featuring a pair of British comedians who joke that they discuss serial killers in their podcast “so we don’t write to them in prison”; “True Crime Obsessed,” which serves as a kind of comedic recap of true crime documentaries; and “Moms and Murder,” which favors softer, gentler laughs. A lot of these podcasts are alcohol themed: Joining “Martinis Murder” at the bar are “Wine Crime,” “And That’s Why We Drink” and “White Wine True Crime!”
A 2010 study suggests that women in particular are drawn to true crime because it provides an outlet for managing anxieties about becoming victims, and to glean survival skills on how to escape or outsmart predators. But true crime also helps create and perpetuate those fears. American men are much more likely to be murder

The mother of an 8-year-old boy from Palmdale, California has pleaded guilty to murdering him in 2013. On Thursday, Pearl Sinthia Fernandez, 34, admitted in a Los Angeles courtroom that she tortured her son Gabriel to death intentionally.
According to the Los Angeles Times, because the mother pleaded guilty she avoided a trial. She does now potentially face life behind bars with no possibility of parole, however. Originally it was believed that prosecutors wanted to fight for the death penalty for Fernandez but her defense lawyers said the mother’s low IQ made her an inappropriate candidate for a death sentence.
After the mother agreed to the conditions of her plea agreement, Deputy Dist. Atty. Jon Hatami told her, “You will never be paroled. You will never be released from prison. Do you understand and agree to this?”
Fernandez responded affirmatively and then her public defender comforted her, according to the
