At least 20 people have been injured and an unknown number have died after a person opened fire inside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in North Broward, Florida on Wednesday afternoon at approximately 2:30pm.
Margate Fire Chief Dan Booker told the Miami Herald that police are responding to a mass casualty incident at the school. Exactly how many have been injured or killed remains unclear. United States senator Bill Nelson has reportedly said that there are “many deaths.”
Students wearing backpacks have been spotted fleeing the school. The active shooter also reportedly fled but is now reportedly in custody. A name has not been released. According to a statement by a Broward County Sheriff, the alleged shooter is approximately 18 years old and was wearing a maroon-colored shirt.
