A woman from Miami has won a $49.3 million judgment against her former high school geometry teacher who raped her her multiple times. The verdict was announced on Tuesday in a Miami-Dade civil court. Bresnniel Jansen Mones, 35, pleaded guilty to three counts of having sex with a minor and two counts of sending lewd texts, according to the Miami Herald.
The victim, now 20, was a 16-year-old sophomore at South Dade Senior High School went the incidents occurred. She is referred to as C.R.R. in court documents. The lawsuit was filed in 2014, and it accused the School Board of neglect after it failed to protect C.R.R. from Mones. According to that lawsuit, Mones had a history of improper behavior that the school should have known about.
C.R.R.’s attorneys John Leighton and Max Panoff released a statement that said, “C.R.R. was not the only student Jansen tried this with.
