A man accused of setting his pregnant girlfriend on fire was accepted to be a firefighter in Washington, DC.
According to NBC4, a judge ordered that Laquinn Phillips be held without bond on Wednesday.
The 34-year-old has been charged with charges including attempted first- and second-degree murder, arson and assault.
On September 8, it was reported authorities responding to a fire found the girlfriend, 30-year-old Andrea Grinage, with critical burns at her home. She told police that Phillips doused her with a flammable liquid and set her on fire. She suffered injuries that forced her to deliver her baby early. The baby, Journey Aaliyah Grinage, was born premature, but is OK.
Phillips turned himself in to police the next day. He reportedly cried in court during his hearing.
