Conrad Roy’s mother is ready to move on following the suicide death of her son. “We want to put it past us. We want to move on. Best way we can,” Lynn Roy tells 48 Hours after hearing Roy’s girlfriend, Michelle Carter, may never have to serve jail time for her role in the death.
Roy and Carter were on the phone together when the 18-year-old was dying of carbon monoxide poisoning inside his truck in July 2014. She never called for help. When Roy apparently got out of his car, she told him to get back inside. Carter sent several texts encouraging Roy, who suffered from depression, to kill himself. One stated, “Hang yourself, jump off a building, stab yourself I don’t know there’s a lot of ways.”
“Michelle Carter exposed my son’s weaknesses and used him as a pawn. Where was her humanity?” asked Roy’s father.
Prosecutors in Plainville, Massachusetts charged her with involuntary manslaughter.
