After Lack of Coverage, New Series Fights to Get Exposure for Case of Missing Black Woman Phoenix Coldon

It was a week before Christmas in 2011 when Phoenix Coldon vanished without a trace. The 23-year-old, who family members said was an excellent musician and a regular at church, was gone, but her SUV was found stopped in the middle of a road with the engine running and her keys still inside.

It’s been nearly seven years and the case is still unsolved, making Coldon one of the nearly 75,000 missing Black women in America. St. Louis reporter Shawndrea Thomas is hoping to change that, however, with a new “Crime Time” series airing on the Oxygen network this week.

Durham’s Crystal Mangum the subject of an episode of true crime series ‘Snapped’

I don’t know how this one slipped past me: Durham’s Crystal Mangum was the subject of a “Snapped” episode on the Oxygen network earlier this month.

Mangum, of course, was the dancer at the center of the Duke Lacrosse scandal from 2006. But “Snapped” is primarily concerned with her 2013 conviction for the murder of her roommate and boyfriend Reginald Daye, who Mangum stabbed in 2011.

The episode features news footage and interviews with Durham Police Department crime scene specialist Al Brown, WRAL crime reporter Amanda Lamb, Raleigh attorney Joseph Cheshire V, friends and family members of Mangum and Daye, and others.

The episode aired on Oct. 7 and has been in reruns, so you can still catch it on TV. But if you can’t wait for the rerun to roll back around, you can watch online at Oxygen. It looks like it will be available online
