Quinton Tellis Will Be Retried For Jessica Chambers’ Murder, District Attorney Says

A District Attorney said Tuesday Quinton Tellis will be retried in Mississippi for the death of 19-year-old Jessica Chambers, who was set on fire, before going to Louisiana to face additional charges.

Tellis is facing life in prison for Chambers’ death, but a hung jury in Batesville, Mississippi put his fate into the hands of a whole new trial and set of jurors on Monday. Not only will he face a new round of Mississippi jurors, but he could also be facing a trial in Louisiana.

The same year Chambers was killed, another young woman, University of Louisiana student Ming-Chen Hsiao, was stabbed in her apartment. Tellis is being charged with her murder, but his defense attorneys said they won’t know what’s next for Tellis at the time the Chambers trial concluded Monday.

“The best thing I know is that he is not indicted in that area and we don’t know anything about

A Mississippi jury was unable to find Quinton Tellis, 29, either guilty or not guilty on Monday of murdering Jessica Chambers in December 2014, when she was set on fire and later died from head-to-toe second and third degree burns. The jury was split, with seven voting guilty and five voting not guilty in an earlier polling.

The district attorney said he will absolutly seek a retrial.

The jury began deliberating at approximately 4:00 p.m. on Sunday after hearing closing statements from both defense and prosecuting attorneys, and failed to reach a decision the following afternoon after more than eight hours of deliberation. The annoucement came after a moment of confusion, in which the judge said they had reached a not guilty verdict, but jurors misunderstood their instructions and in

Jurors May Soon Reach A Verdict in Jessica Chambers Murder Trial

A Mississippi jury is now deliberating on whether Quinton Tellis, 29, is responsible for murdering 19-year-old Jessica Chambers on Dec. 6, 2014, when she was set on fire and later died from head-to-toe second and third degree burns.

The jury began deliberating at approximately 4:00 p.m. Sunday after hearing closing statements from both defense and prosecuting attorneys. Early in the trial at least eight first responders testified to hearing Chambers say someone named Eric was responsible for setting her on fire, but prosecutors argued her injuries were so significant she would have been unable to communicate clearly.

“I told you as this trial began, you were going to think to yourself, ‘Hmm. why are we here?’ Because when the first responders got to Jessica, they did not hear the name Quinton. They thought they heard the name Eric or Derrick,” prosecuting attorney John Champion said during closing statements Sunday. “Maybe she was

First Responders Describe Jessica Chambers As ‘A Zombie’ When She Allegedly Said ‘Eric Set Me On Fire’

BATESVILLE, MS — First responders to the scene where Mississippi teenager Jessica Chambers was found with burns on 93 percent of her body said in court Wednesday morning she was “mentally in shock,” “in a trance,” and that she “looked like a zombie” when she told them a man named Eric set her on fire.
Yet prosecutors began making their case Wednesday as to why 29-year-old Quinton Tellis—and not a man named Eric—is responsible for Chambers’ horrific murder. Tellis has pleaded not guilty.

On the second day of trial in the small Mississippi courthouse jurors heard from a parade of first responders, many of whom were the last people to speak with Chambers before she fell unconscious on Dec. 6, 2014.

Those who spoke to her at the scene of the crime in Courtland testified she said “Eric set me on fire,” and prosecutors worked to combat these reports, asking the first
