It took a 400-pound pig to tip off cops that an animal rescue home in rural Minnesota had a sick secret: Most of its animals were dead.
Deputies from the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the Minnesota Animal Center in Farmington Wednesday responding to a call about a hog on the loose, running around a yard.
When they arrived at the single-family home that houses the center, they found more than 60 cats and a rabbit were stuffed in a freezer.
“It’s about as bad as you can get,” Keith Streff, a Humane Society investigator, said at a news conference. “It’s a catastrophic environment.”
He said that the sheriff’s office issued a search warrant, and that the Humane Society rescued more than 40 cats and five dogs. An investigation into the center is ongoing.
Caycee Bregel, who leases the property and operates the animal rescue, was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty, according to WCCO in Minneapolis.

A California man is facing animal cruelty charges after torturing his pet kitten. According to People, 34-year-old Lucio Lopez allegedly put his cat in the freezer and then tossed her off of his balcony.
Luckily, the cat survived.
According to the police report, Lopez allegedly attacked the pet in his apartment shortly after 2:45 a.m. He was allegedly upset that the cat had walked into his apartment. It’s unclear if she was a wild cat or actually lived inside with him. He then put the 3-year-old animal into the freezer. Authorities say that he removed the cat, who was making noise, and then squeezed her. He then threw the wincing animal off his second floor balcony.
The kitten suffered major injuries. “The kitten struck the concrete floor resulting in major injuries to its chest and a fractured leg,” a statement by the Fontana Police Department shared. “Lopez was arrested by officers and booked

There is no video of Kenneka Jenkins walking into an industrial hotel freezer where her body was found earlier this month, according to the hotel she was found dead at.
A spokesperson for the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare Hotel Conference Center told a CBS affiliate in Chicago on Tuesday that footage of the 19-year-old going into the freezer does not exist. Why? No camera in the hotel is focused on the freezer, according to the report.
Jenkins attended a party on the ninth floor of the hotel on September 8. A day and a half later her body was found. Police told family members that Jenkins likely walked into the freezer and died.
“I want to see her literally, actually walking into this freezer,” Tereasa Martin, Jenkins’ mother, stated last week. Previously, Martin told WGNTV, “I believe someone in this hotel

A man allegedly stored his girlfriend’s body in a freezer while his new girlfriend took over her identity by moving into her home and using her credit cards. She even became the caretaker of the dead girlfriend’s dog.
A body was discovered in a Campbell, Ohio home last weekend, and police believe it’s likely a 28-year-old missing woman named Shannon Graves, according to CBS News. Found living in Graves’ home was her 31-year-old boyfriend Arturo Novoa and 34-year-old Katrina Layton. Police are awaiting official identification of the body and its cause of death.
Novoa and Layton have been jailed on corpse-abuse charges, according to CBS. The corpse was discovered after Novoa brought it to a friend’s house. He allegedly told a friend that his power went out. He asked if he could store a freezer at their house. The friend said yes, and Novoa brought a padlocked freezer to the house.
