‘Killer Couples’ to feature Abilene duo convicted of killing police officer Don Allen

The murder of an Abilene police officer by a husband and wife will be featured on the television show “Killer Couples.”

The Oxygen Network will broadcast the episode about Phillip and Violet Walter at 8 p.m. Monday. 

In October 2016, the Walters were convicted of murder in the death of Don Allen during a trial in Baird, the county seat of Callahan County. The officer’s bound body was found in the master bedroom of his house in Clyde on Aug. 31, 2015. 

Both were determined to have tied up the off-duty officer before choking him to death. They took items, including Allen’s police belt, gun and radio, and fled, according to courtroom testimony. 

The Walters each were sentenced to 40 years in prison.

Oxygen expands crime slate; Ice-T, Nancy Grace feature in new series

NBCUniversal owned-Oxygen Media has upped its slate of crime programming, following  an announcement in early 2017 that  it would be focusing its content to become a crime destination network for women.

Its slate includes the greenlighting of eight new series, two new series in development, and the acquisition of Dateline: Secrets Uncovered.

“This new slate has a great mix of high stakes real time crime investigation and innovative formats that allows viewers to stay engaged from beginning to end with immersive storytelling,” said Aissa, “It’s a real differentiator in our programming, and we’re thrilled to be working with some of the sharpest talent and producers in the genre,” said Rod Aissa, EVP, original programming and development, Oxygen Media (pictured).

“Snapped,” which airs at 9 p.m. Sundays on the Oxygen Network, will air the Castorena episode Sunday, Feb. 28.

Featured in the episode will be Ottawa County Prosecutor Ron Frantz, Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office investigators Capt. Mark Bennett and Det. Jacob Sparks, The Sentinel reporter Curtis Wildfong and members of Castorena’s family.

Filming for the show was last spring, when a production conducted interviews and took footage from around Holland and Park Township, where the crime
