The East Coast vs. West Coast rap feud is on. In episode 6 of UNSOLVED: The Murders of Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G., the battle lines have been drawn between Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. The episode opens with the 1995 Source Awards in which Marion “Suge” Knight of Death Row Records famously fired shots at rival Bad Boy Records: “Come to Death Row!”
What we know so far: Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). Detectives Greg Kading (played by Josh Duhamel) and Russell Poole (played by Jimmi Simpson) have questioned suspects and gone down various rabbit holes. With the series more than halfway done, it seems that we should be getting closer to a resolution in the murders of Tupac and Biggie.
Random observation: Can people change? Kading’s team has a mantra: “Once a dope dealer, always a dope dealer.”
Here’s what we know after episode 6:

Episode three starts in May of 1997, a perfume salesperson on a home shopping network anxiously calls her husband from the airport. Crime aficionados will have recognized that her last name is shared with one of Cunanan’s victims. She comes home to find melted ice cream on the kitchen table and an otherwise empty and undisturbed house. A neighbor investigates while the police are called.
“I knew it.”
One week earlier in Chicago. Marilyn Miglin is giving some form of motivational speech and notes that “so often we are told that the American dream is dead,” while espousing some boot-strap rhetoric about hard work and success. She describes Lee as “the perfect husband.”
Murphy, once again without subtlety, is making a statement on gay life before the current social movement we find ourselves in: when good, kind people had to keep their sexualities hidden and sublimate

The true crime revival of 2016 and 2017 has continued to produce excellent, thought-provoking content that pushes the boundaries of the genre. While more traditional inquiries into the existential and juridical ramifications of actual criminal behavior have captivated the nation (with docu-series like “The Keepers” and dramas like “Mindhunter” garnering mainstream approval), filmmakers have also begun more artistic and post-modern experimentations.
“Casting JonBenét” explored the multiple truths behind one of America’s most notorious murders, and it turned the genre on its head by featuring interviews with actors from the dramatic re-telling along with their personal reflections on the case. Now, “I, Tonya” continues this more avant-garde trend, exploring the multiplicity of truths behind all supposedly “true” stories.
Although not the sole focus of the movie, the main subject covered in “I, Tonya” is the conspiracy and assault on Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan, an athletic rival of the film’s subject. The official story

When the trailer for Marc Meyers’ My Friend Dahmer dropped months ago, reaction was certainly mixed. Some praised the film’s obvious seriousness and sensitivity to an issue often sensationalized, while others criticized the ongoing trend of the romanticization of serial killers. Teen Vogue editor Sandra Song came down harshly against the film: “We are continually fed this idea that white male serial killers are charming, debonair characters — that they’re just misunderstood, incomprehensibly complex people who also happen to have a strange proclivity for the dark and macabre,” Song writes. “And while there’s nothing wrong with being curious about what drove them to commit acts of this nature, that curiosity becomes an issue when movie or TV producers opt to completely gloss over the lives of the victims in favor of an easily digestible ‘outsider’ narrative.”
Fair enough, but that criticism hardly applies to My Friend Dahmer, as would be evident to anyone
