He was a supporting character in one of the most notorious sports murder cases of all time.
Football superstar Aaron Hernandez, while playing for the Patriots, was convicted in the murder of Odin Lloyd. Before the murder, he deposited $15,000 into the account of a man named Oscar Hernandez Jr. (no relation).
The money, CBS News reported, was for guns. Hernandez Jr. bought firearms and shipped it to Hernandez. One of those weapons was found later, in the woods between Hernandez’s home and the industrial park where murder victim Odin Lloyd’s body was found. The murder weapon was never found.
Hernandez Jr. pleaded guilty in January 2015 to conspiring to transfer a firearm and other charges. He served two years in prison and had three years of supervised release.
