Oxygen’s ‘Dannemora Prison Break’ Details the Real-Life Escape Behind the Showtime Drama (VIDEO)

The best stories are true stories. And one of the most stunning and fascinating real-life events was when two inmates escaped from maximum-security Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, New York in June 2015.

David Sweat and Richard Matt, with the help of prison employee Joyce “Tilly” Mitchell, brilliantly executed their escape, after which a 21-day manhunt ensued. It’s a story that’s been told via Showtime’s (Golden Globe-nominated) scripted drama Escape at Dannemora, and TV Insider can exclusively reveal that Oxygen is diving into the real-life drama with the two-hour special, Dannemora Prison Break.

ITN Productions’ Michael Welsh details Oxygen’s “The Turpin 13″ doc

Ahead of the Oxygen Media premiere of The Turpin 13: Family Secrets Exposed tomorrow (April 28), Michael Welsh,  ITN Productions’ VP of production and development, U.S., tells how the London-headquartered company got access first, and why the timing is right for the story.

In the two-hour television event, acclaimed journalist Soledad O’Brien investigates the story of David and Louise Turpin, who are currently awaiting their preliminary trial for child abuse after allegedly imprisoning, shackling, beating and strangling their 13 children for years in their Perris, California home. The victims ranged in age from two to 29-years-old.

Welsh says he and his executive producer saw the news and immediately sent producers out to California and West Virginia. “Lo and behold, nobody was out hunting. We were shocked and are still shocked to say the least. It was so hot and fresh at the time, we really thought people would be out there

Zac Efron Is Playing Ted Bundy And We Are Here For It — All The Details We Have So Far

We are really excited about the new Ted Bundy biopic “Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile” starring Zac Efron.

For those not briefed on the infamous case: Bundy confessed, after numerous prison escapes and much denial, to having killed over 30 women between 1973 and 1978, but his actual body count is unknown. His modus operandi was to fake an injury and ask women in parking lots for help getting into his Volkswagen. Anyone generous enough to help would be hit with a crowbar and driven to an isolated place, where he murdered them and often had sex with their corpse. Despite that, women flocked to his charm and good looks. Bundy received hundreds of letters, including marriage proposals, from female fans while on trial and in prison.

Here’s what we know so far about the film, which is currently in post-production, so far:

Gruesome Details About Cherish Perrywinkle’s Murder Revealed In Court: ‘She Did Not Die Easily’

On Monday, State Attorney Melissa Nelson described the horrible manner in which 8-year-old Cherish Perrywinkle was killed in 2013. This week kicked off the trial for the Florida man accused of kidnapping, raping and murdering Perrywinkle. Donald James Smith, 61, faces the death penalty if he is found guilty of first-degree murder, kidnapping and sexual battery, reported The Washington Post. He has pleaded not guilty.

Nelson said that the child’s last five hours alive were torturous.

“He gagged her, raped her, he sodomized her, then he strangled her. He gagged her with such force, her gums and nostrils bled. He strangled her with such force her eyeballs bled,” Nelson said. “Cherish did not die quickly, and she did not die easily. In fact, hers was a brutal and tortured death.”

Rayne Perrywinkle, the victim’s mother, also testified in court today. At times she fought back tears while speaking about the last hours

Former Jodi Arias Detective Calls Case A ‘Travesty,’ Details Her Bizarre Behavior

Ten years after the death of 30-year-old Travis Alexander, a new limited series is airing an exclusive interview with the detective who investigated the case that landed Jodi Arias behind bars, Fox News reported.

In 2008, Alexander, a Mormon salesman living in Arizona, was discovered dead in his shower with nearly 30 stab wounds and a bullet in his head.

His girlfriend, Jodi Arias, was arrested for the murder, with prosecutors claiming that she planned the killing after Alexander broke up with her.

Arias was found guilty in 2013 of first-degree premeditated murder. She was sentenced to life in prison without parole, and she remains behind bars at the Arizona State Prison Complex in Perryville.

Now, Nathan Mendes — the detective who arrested Arias — is speaking out for the first time in a three-part Investigation Discovery series called “Jodi Arias: An American Murder Mystery.”

“I think people should realize the whole thing is
